A framework for building Bluetooth scatternets: A system design approach
Abstract
Building Bluetooth scatternets is the focus of a lot of research activity where scatternet formation algorithms are developed to optimize various performance criteria. In this paper, we focus on establishing a framework within which these algorithms can be exploited in an operational Bluetooth network. First we review pertinent parts of the Bluetooth protocol stack and then we present issues of concern related to the direct implementation of these algorithms on Bluetooth networks. Finally, to address this issue, we introduce a framework for creating scatternets and show how existing scatternet formation algorithms can be re-used by altering the layer at which they become visible to the Bluetooth protocol stack. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
