ANELASTICITY AND DIFFUSION OF HYDROGEN IN GLASSY AND CRYSTALLINE METALS.
Abstract
The comparatively recent discovery of widespread hydrogen-related anelasticity in amorphous alloys represents an exciting new development with implications that extend to body-centered cubic and other crystalline metals. Illustrative data, presented mainly for glassy Pd-Si alloys, show that hydrogen produces a prominent reorientation relaxation and a long-range Gorsky relaxation. Important complementary features in the strength and kinetics of these relaxations establish that both relaxations originate from the general population of hydrogen atoms present in interstitial solid solution.
