Could Pervasive Computing Influence Democracy?
Abstract
Many believe that social media helped create a bubble during the last presidential election in the US, in which people only saw opinions similar to their own. Could technology help pop that bubble for the next election and beyond? Could it be used to improve dialogues across different social circles to facilitate the exchange of different views? Here, Maria Ebling asks these and other questions related to how pervasive computing technologies might influence our democracy.
