Effects of segment mobility on slip and adhesion
Abstract
The slip of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomer over a glassy polystyrene (PS) substrate was examined experimentally. The substrate was covered with a layer of tethered PDMS chains whose thickness was varied from zero to about 90 angstroms. The effect of a segmentally mobile but tethered layer on the slip resistance was studied as well. The slip resistance was found to depend on the thickness of the PDMS tethered layer present, local mobility, and that substrate local mobility have a strong influence on the adhesion of viscoelastic adhesive to the substrate.
