IBM 5080 GRAPHICS SYSTEM, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE.

Abstract

The 5080 system is a very high performance raster graphics system for supporting IBM's mainline CAE products. The developers have been able to maintain the existing standards of the 3250 system, particularly performance and image quality. At the same time they have produced a colour system with a wide range of programmable functions and maintain complete compatibility with existing software and hardware. Moreover the price in the UK is the same or slightly less the superseded vector refresh system. It is around the 5080 (particularly the GPU) that IBM and their software suppliers are developing the next range of CAE products. The 5085 provides us with the start of the truly intelligent workstation.
