Internal friction and transmission electron microscopy studies of magnesium-II. Electron microscopy

Abstract

Thin film transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction studies on pure and doped Mg were undertaken with the objective of correlating them with internal friction investigations. Small amounts (1%) of plastic deformation with slip primarily in the basal plane increased the dislocation density by a factor of about 100. The dislocations were generally very smooth and long. Hexagonal networks of dislocations were found, mostly in subgrains. {101 ̄2} 〈101 ̄1〉 twins were found in specimens deformed by compression along the basal plane. Precipitates of Ni were observed and identified, as MgNi2. Pinning effects of Li and Ni were also studied. © 1967.
