Medical concept resolution

Abstract

In this paper, we present a problem that we refer to as Medical Concept Resolution for finding concept identifiers in a large knowledge base, given medical terms mentioned in a text. We define the problem with its unique features and novel algorithms to address it. We compare performance to MetaMap and find distinct and complementary behavior.
