MICRO/370 CONTROL FLOW.
Abstract
The authors discuss the control flow of Micro/370, a 32-bit single-chip nMOS microprocessor. It directly implements 102 System/370 instructions. It uses coprocessors for an additional 60 instructions and supports emulation of all other System/370 instructions. The control flow of Micro/370 determined the floorplan of the chip at an early design stage. The physical arrangement of the clock-phase generator, control store, execution unit, instruction prefetch registers, instruction decoders, bus controller, and sequencer provides the optimal paths for control information to flow efficiently from one component to the next.
