Mode perturbations and filamentary coupling in GaAs lasers
Abstract
Three distinct types of mode perturbations are revealed in the temporal output of GaAs lasers: (a) mode hopping between longitudinal modes; (b) random noise associated with the sharing of power among modes; and (c) a sudden spatial redistribution of power brought on by the excitation of a different set of transverse modes. Filaments are shown to couple to one another at all power levels for narrow junction lasers, probably by means of diffraction effects. © 1971 The American Institute of Physics.
