National drought atlas
Abstract
The National Drought Atlas is part of a study of water management during drought, funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other state and federal agencies. The Atlas establishes frequency distributions for drought measures (annual and monthly precipitation and streamflow), and includes data on the Palmer Drought Severity Index, and reservoirs for the contiguous 48 states. The NDA will be published in paper form, and it is hoped that the database will also be made available on CDROMs (with many of the files using database and/or spreadsheet formats with included macros for ease of use). In addition, an interactive PC version of the drought Atlas has been cobbled together using TYDAC SPANS MAP and LOTUS 123/G to serve as a prototype for a standalone PC based interactive National Drought Atlas computer program. The talk is illustrated using screen dumps from this prototype program.
