Abstract

2 questions were raised about numerical error checking: "(a) What is the effect of grouping digits on the speed and accuracy of error checking? (b) How does the probability of error affect the speed and accuracy of error checking?" Volunteer college students (34) checked numbers on 1 page against numbers on another page. " . . . speed of checking varied greatly with size of horizontal group." " . . . the number of errors remaining undetected is directly related to the original number of errors." "The speed of error checking was highest for groupings of three or four digits." (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved). © 1959 American Psychological Association.
