OBJECT-ORIENTED DATABASE CONCEPTS FOR ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS.
Abstract
Information to be represented in databases for engineering applications is usually too complex to be stored in single records or in homogeneous sets of records. Therefore, database management systems should include concepts that allow one to deal with this kind of data in a straightforward manner. The authors discuss some useful object-oriented semantics including the concept of complex objects, long transactions, and object versions. A prototype providing these features is being implemented using a relational database system.
