Resource profiling with multi-disciplined teams

Abstract

It is the job of development teams to deliver products on shorter development cycle times and corresponding lower development expense. The ideal team for rapid product development should be drawn from all functional areas and dedicated to the project from conception to volume production. However, this ideal team is wasteful of resource since not all the team is required 100% all the time. For efficient use of valuable development skills, the deployment of the team across projects should be managed. This require good planning, communications and a flexible approach by the team. In the present work, the challenges of resource balancing for multi-disciplined teams are examined to increase efficiency in the use of development skills.
