THRESHOLD DESIGN FOR DYNAMIC ROUTING.

Abstract

An important method of dynamic routing is to establish new virtual circuits on routes that avoid congested regions of the network. To evaluate congestion, a network designer must establish utilization thresholds, above which a link is less desirable for usage, and a weighting factor for such a congested link. The authors formulate a model for determining the optimal thresholds and weights. The optimum is determined for a number of important cases.
