Tradeoffs in the design of media-access protocols for high-speed packet-switched broadcast multichannel networks

Abstract

We summarize the tradeoffs involved in the design of media-access protocols for high-speed, packetswitched, broadcast, multichannel networks between tunability and scalability, processing and number of control channels, network throughput and cost, reservations and delay, and synchronization and support of different traffic classes.
