Abstract
This paper discusses the nature and origins of the low frequency fields generated by VDUs, together with ways of minimizing them, and reviews the recommendations for test methods and emission levels. Currently, there exists a confusion about possible health hazards from low-frequency electromagnetic fields. In the absence of a formal standard for low-frequency VDU emissions, some firms have exploited this confusion by using the safety theme as their main selling point. This therefore calls for formal standard against which VDUs can be assessed.
