VIDEOTEX.
Abstract
Videotex is the name of the first and most popular of the Telematic services offered by PTTs in Europe. It was conceived in the early seventies by the U. K. Post Office. It is intended to be a low cost, easy to use, information distribution system which can display alpha numeric characters and graphics on a color screen. It is a major step in the convergence of Telecommunications and Information System. There are two basic type of Videotex: Broadcast Videotex, also called Teletext, which uses a normal TV channel to transmit a limited number of Videotex frames during the vertical blanking intervals; and Interactive Videotex which uses the Public Switched Telephone Network for full duplex interactive communication. This paper will only address Interactive Videotex.
